Bajo tribe who still maintain the tradition of living on the sea, has a unique tradition. They have a special tradition especially in celebrating the birth of a child on a boat while sailing in the ocean.


"This newborn child will be directly dipped into the sea water, put into the bottom of the boat where he was born," said Rosimin, as Chairman of Customs Bajo.

Similar regulations do not apply to Bajo tribes born on land. They will only be bathed in the ocean after three days of birth. Furthermore, the babies will be bathed back at sea after the age of 40 days.

Born and raised in the ocean, making Bajo's children very familiar with the maritime world. So they have the ability to hunt marine animals on the sidelines of the reef by way of unsupported dive in a very long time.

"We Bajo people can dive without oxygen for 20-30 minutes under the sea," said Rosimin in the area of ​​Kuningan, South Jakarta.

Bajo people also have a wealth of traditional rituals that continue to be preserved until now. In addition to birth, the wedding ceremony is also quite unique, because the groom's family will be paraded through boats to the bride's boat.

"Usually the male family will hand over a white cloth as a dowry to the prospective bride," added Rosimin on Wednesday, November 4, 2015.
